64 bit drivers?

Posted by Kevin at April 04. 2008

Does anyone know if Renesas is planning on releasing 64 bit USB drivers for the FoUSB or other USB dongles any time soon?

There is a planned release for a Vista "compliant" version of HEW, however I don't remember the date.

As for a 64 bit driver: FoUSB won't get one, but maybe some of the newer devices.

Question: do any existing FoUSB/E8/E8A drivers work on 64 bit Windows?

To be honest, I have not actually tried the FoUSB in 64 bit Windows.  However, 64 bit Windows requires 64 bit drivers, there is absolutely no backwards compatibility with 32 bit drivers.

Also, the Renesas Tools News basically states it will not work:

I think 64 bit drivers are going to be a big issue (in general, not just for Renesas) in the near future.  4 gigs of RAM is cheap now.  The only way to actually use 4 gigs of RAM is with 64 bit Windows (unless you use a Server edition of Windows).
